LWV Ohio Event: 2017 Statehouse Day. Join the State League for LWV Ohio Statehouse Day on Tuesday, March 7, 2017. We will be hearing about important public policy issues directly from key policy-makers and experts, and will have the chance to ask them your questions.

We are very pleased to announce that our lunch keynote speaker will be David Daley, author of the book Rat F**ked: The True Story Behind the Secret Plan to Steal America's Democracy.

In his book, Daley chronicles the unprecedented effort by political operatives to hack American democracy through an audacious plan to flip state legislatures and redraw state and congressional legislative district lines in their party's favor. Mr. Daley is the former editor-in-chief of Salon and the Digital Media Fellow for the Wilson Center for Humanities and the Arts at the Grady School of Journalism at the University of Georgia.

You are welcome to join us for the entire day, a half day, or just for lunch. Meetings with legislators will be scheduled throughout the day upon request.

Please come join this public information discussion focussed on areas impacted by the drug use epidemic and compounded by poverty issues. A discussion will be facilitated with the help of local experts. The panel includes: Brandon Feller (President, United Way of Delaware County), who will discuss food insecurity; Russell Martin, (Delaware County Sheriff), who will discuss drug abuse; Melissa Humbert (Regional Housing Director, Salvation Army), who will discuss homeless youth; and, Courtnie Howell (Stable Cradle Advocate, Maryhaven), who will discuss teen moms.

Annual Dinner Meeting Featuring Thomas Suddes Discussing the Political Outlook for Ohio and the US with a Special Look at Gerrymandering and It's Impact. Join us for dinner and a vote on next year's officers as well as a discussion with Thomas Suddes whom you should know from your Sunday's Columbus Dispatch editorial page. It should be an enlightening evening full of the latest info on what is happening in politics and it's impact on the US and Ohio.

Thomas Suddes teaches journalism at Ohio University's E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, where he earned a master's degree and a Ph.D. He's a Youngstown native. Suddes joined The Plain Dealer in 1982, covered the Statehouse for 17 years, and was president of the Ohio Legislative Correspondents Association. He's a member of the editorial board of cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer, and has written a weekly column on Ohio politics since the mid-1980s. The column also appears in The Columbus Dispatch and the Dayton Daily News. The Press Club of Cleveland inducted Suddes into the Cleveland Journalism Hall of Fame in 2014.
